Credit Cards and Low Apr

Despite the often bad publicity credit cards receive, they are extremely useful, but the amount of interest you pay can be a deciding factor on whether or not a particular card will be of benefit or not. If you are not in a position to pay off the balance on your credit card when the statement comes in each month then you will need to find a low APR credit card to help manage the payments.

Basically, APR is the cost of credit as a yearly interest rate and stands for Annual Percentage Rate of charge which can be used to compare different credit and loan offers. The APR on credit cards is usually calculated monthly based on the current amount in the card and the monthly interest is calculated as if the current card balance would remain the same over a year; the interest on the amount over a year (APR) is worked out and divided by 12 to give the monthly interest. Financial laws require that the user must be aware of the figure and agree to it before they are provided with the credit card.

The lower the APR the lower the amount of interest they pay on their goods but this is not the only factor to consider when applying for a low APR credit card. Anyone who is in need of reducing their monthly expenditure will find this type of credit card an advantage and while there are other charges to look out for this will be the biggest contributing factor in the cost each month.

If you are considering a low APR credit card then the first place to look is on the Internet. People on stricter financial budgets will be better off with a fixed rate credit card as the interest rate will not vary and will help better manage their financial commitments each month.

Be aware of other fees and charges that might be added, although some are voluntary like the inclusion of a payment insurance which can guarantee the monthly minimum amount owing will be paid. Not every low APR credit card will be suitable as some of the other fees that are paid may not suit you situation so check into what you will be expected to pay in advance.

You will probably need to compare a number of credit cards but many websites can provide this information with a table that provides the overall amount each will cost on a yearly basis. Some credit cards will ensure you are protected from unauthorized spending on your card and offer a zero percent interest rate for a number of months on almost everything you can use the credit card for including transferring a balance from another card.

Many credit card companies actively participate in promoting the transfer of balances and sometimes they will offer a zero rate on these as well for a limited period. There are many uses for a credit card and some people only use them to improve their credit score after they have had financial problems.

International Transaction Fees Are Normally Charged On Credit Cards

Nearly every major U.S. credit card company, with the possible exception of one, charges a two to three percent foreign transaction fee when you use your credit card internalionally. Not until recent years, many credit card companies did not clearly explain these fees in their terms and conditions.

As a consequence of this, many people received notice of a class action lawsuit settlement  regarding these fees earlier this year. Credit card companies must clearly inform their applicants of all international transaction charges because the lawsuit has been settled.

If you want to know how much your credit card company charges for international credit card use, you should contact the customer service and you will probably be told that the fee is three percent. It can be very expensive on the purse to pay an extra three percent on every purchase, but these charges can be avoided.

Foreign currency exchange rates from your bank can often offer you a better deal than what you will get at a foreign currency exchange booth.

Even though ATM withdrawals are generally free of foreign transaction charges, using your debit card as a credit card comes with some risks. A credit card provides much better fraud protection than a debit card and for this reason using a debit card abroad to make purchases can be risky. If your credit card is used by an unscrupulous merchant to overcharge or for some sort of fraud the charges can be easily contested and your card account will be refunded. A debit card used fraudulently will make your bank account disappear and it will be very slow to reappear.

It seems that the best way to pay no international transaction fees is through the use of the credit cards that charge no fees; these no fee credit cards give you security without the added expense.

It is always great to know just how much you will be spending in your day to day life, but it is even better when you are vacationing because ATM cash advance fee are charged for each transaction. Few people can tell exactly how much cash they will require while traveling, and unless you have a very precise budget, it can be difficult to withdraw the correct amount in one single transaction.

Sometimes it is hard to find a cash machine in many countries, but you have to be careful to not withdraw too large of an amount to protect yourself from being robbed. The conversion of funds back to your own currency carries fees as well as what you will have already paid to convert to the foreign currency.

Traveler’s checks are a safe alternative to cash but they are not accepted everywhere and there is a fee to purchase them.

When applying for the credit card you believe will not charge any additional fees for foreign purchases, be sure you study the terms and conditions carefully to be absolutely sure the card you are getting is the right card. Before you use the card, check the terms of it to be sure you can pay the balance off fast if the interest rate is high, so you won’t be paying extra fees in another way.

Credit Card Rewards Are Very Useful

The credit cards which offer “rewards” are willing to do this by keeping track of the number of purchases for which the cards are used. The credit card rewards offered come in an almost endless variety with some of the most popular ones being air miles and discounts off the costs of flights. It is possible to earn discount points toward the purchase of a new car, and there are some retailers and stores which give you loyalty rewards for using a card issued in their name.

You should be asking yourself if these rewards are worth it, in spite of  how desirable they may be.For the answer to this question, it is instructive to look at the rate of interest applied to purchases made on credit cards with rewards and compare them to those without rewards. The lowest rate of interest on these types of cards is usually about 15% APR even though there are several credit cards that offer some kind of  loyalty bonus or reward. This is about 7-8% more in interest than you would pay for a very basic, low-interest credit card and infinitely greater, of course, than you would be paying on the zero-percent rate of interest on the introductory offer with many other credit cards. When you do a comparison of all of the interest rates on the whole range of credit cards it will show that some of them exceed over 30% APR.

If your credit card is one of those that has these higher rates of interest and you are using it to earn enough points to get the types of rewards you want, it may be a better idea to switch to a lower interest credit card and save money instead of reward points. The kind of credit card user who pays off their total card balance before the payment due date and never has to pay interest, will actually receive the rewards for using their card for free.Unless you are sure that you can pay off all of the total balance on your credit card every month, you may want to use an alternative such as the cash back credit card. The cash back credit card gives back cash to you according what has been spent on the card each month and the reward credit card also works on this principally in the same manner.

Since the best current cash back rate is in the area which runs about 5% and the spending you do on the card attracts around 19% APR in  interest, you will unfortunately end up paying quite a lot for the use of the card. The interest charges can be avoided and the 5% cash back can be put into your own pocket if you are one of the consumers who is in the habit of paying all of your outstanding balances each month.

It can certainly be worthwhile to you if you use the cash back credit cards and those that offer rewards if you keep paying your monthly outstanding balances consistently and avoid the interest that will be charged.Your personal financial picture may be given a brighter focus when you are using these cards that offer rewards and cash back.

Balance Transfer Credit Cards

It's a simple matter to transfer your outstanding balance to a balance transfer credit card. After you apply and receive approval, the company who issued the card will send you blank checks which can be used to repay your current creditors. These checks are drawn on the account connected to your balance transfer credit card and you'll then start making payments to this company rather than to your current creditors. Here's the real advantage - these companies will offer significantly lower interest rates; 12% or less for these balance transfer credit cards instead of the 18% or more charged by most credit card companies. Some even offer a zero interest introductory period, sometimes as long as a year for the balance transferred from other accounts.

What I learned is that once I wasn't spending more money on interest payments then I was on paying down the balance I owed, I started seeing that debt really shrink. It felt great to see that number shrink instead of staying more or less the same. And once I was able to make one last payment and get out of debt, it was an incredible feeling.

So where do you find these balance transfer credit cards? The best place is on the Internet, for a couple of reasons. First, the entire application process can often be completed online, making it quick, easy, and convenient to open up one of these accounts. Second, you can actually shop for the best rates online, since many websites post balance transfer credit card comparison charts that list interest rates as well as other account features, making it simple to choose the offer you like best.

Why go to the work of finding the best balance transfer credit cards when you can let someone else do the research for you? I found my account online, and opening it was one of the best financial decisions I ever made. Find your own financial freedom and get your debt under control with one of these accounts. Spend wisely!

Using Credit Cards On Vacation

Low Interest Visa Credit Card

Each and every year, many of us go on vacations.  Vacations are a great way to relax, and get away from the everyday pressure of life.  Over half of all American families take their vacation between April and September, meaning that they spend a lot of money on travel.  Whether it's international or domestic travel, you can spend a fortune before you actually realize it.

As we all know, traveling with cash or checks isn't always a wise decision.  Renting cars, flying in airplanes, or checking into hotels is a much easier task if you have a credit card.  Even though you may decide to use your credit cards for big purchases only, you'll find that the traveling experience will be a much smoother process.

Using your credit card  can also protect you. It is a detailed record of what you have purchased and when you purchased it. Your statement can even state the time you made the purchase. Your statement acts as your receipt of all purchases you have made, regardless if you do or do not have the original store receipt. You have detailed information of all transactions made when you use it. It can be viewed anytime, on or off line.

Credit cards are also much easier to handle and keep track of than cash.  If you decide to go to a theme park or a resort, you'll find that cash can be a bit bulky to handle.  Carrying a large amount of cash can be hard to keep track of, even though it isn't recommended.  Credit cards use up less space, and you can keep them in your pocket.  When you need to pay for something, you don't need to count through your cash, simply hand over your credit card and sign your receipt.

Many companies offer a cash back reward each time you make a purchase on it. This means that the company will give you a small percentage of every purchase that you make. And is usually given on a monthly basis.

Other companies offer you points every time you spend on your card.  The points can be used at local businesses for all manner of things and there is usually no time limit on the redemption of your points so you can save them up for a bigger purchase if you wish.

All in all, a credit card can make your vacation easier than ever before.  You can earn rewards and cash back with purchases you make using your card.  Although you may think cash is the preferred way to go, there are several merchants who actually prefer credit cards.  They are more professional, and easier for you to handle than cash or checks.

They are easy to obtain as well, providing you have good credit.  If you don't have a credit card, you should look into getting one before you take your next vacation.  All you need to do is look for your favorite company online and apply through their website - you'll normally receive a response in a matter of minutes.

ID Thieves Want Your Pre Approved Credit Card Applications

If you are anything like me, you get at least one pre approved credit card application in the mail every week. It seems like there is no end to the onslaught of mail from these banks and credit card companies. How they get our information and why so many of them have it is another story but it is downright scary.

It is annoying to get these applicatons so often but what is worse is that they are great for ID thieves if they can get their hands on them. I make sure I shred all of the pre approved bank and credit card applications I get and not just throw them away so that I don't become another victim of idenity theft. It is a pain to go to this trouble but in the long run it is worth it.

These applications are perfect for identity thieves and are exactly what they are looking for when they steal your mail or go through your garbage. Identity thieves will take your credit card application and change the address to their address or PO box and then send it in. They are hoping to get a brand new credit card sent to them without you even knowing it.

That is why it is so important for you to shred all your finacial statements and junk mail. Shred them so that they can't be put back together. It really should be against the law for these companies to be sending out pre filled applications that anyone can get a hold of. An ID thief is always on the lookout for something like this that he can use to pretend to be you and send in. Department store credit applications are a similar type of mail that you need to make sure you shred.

If an identity theif steals your mail, you never even know what he has stolen.
